What is Automotive Service Excellence (ASE)?

Until the early 1970s, consumers had no way to distinguish between an incompetent and competent automotive technician. In response to this need, the independent, non-profit National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) was established in 1972.

Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) mission is to improve the quality of vehicle repair and service through the testing and certification of repair and service of automotive technician professionals.

At present, about 420,000 automotive technician professionals hold current Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications. Automotive Technician Professionals work in every segment of the automotive service industry: car and truck dealerships, independent garages, fleets, service stations, franchises and more.

What are the Benefits of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification?

The benefits of the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification are both personal and professional:

  • By taking and passing tough, national competency exams, Automotive Technician Professionals will have the pride of knowing that they are among the elite in their profession.
  • Automotive Technician Professionals will have the credentials to prove their competence to others: their coworkers, their employer, their prospective employer and their customers.
  • Automotive Technician Professionals can expect increased respect from their peers and their employer.
  • Once certified, each Automotive Technician Professional receives an Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) shoulder insignia, wallet I.D. card and a wall certificate.

How do you become Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certified?

There are eight Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) automobile test areas in the Automobile Technician certification A-series. If you pass one or more tests, and have at least two years of hands-on working experience in automotive repair, then you will become certified as an Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Automobile Technician. If you pass all eight ASE tests in the series and meet the experience requirement, you will earn the certificate of Master Automobile Technician. (Appropriate vocational training may be substituted for up to one year of work experience.) You do not have to have the two years experience to take the exams, however you will not receive you certification until you meet this requirement.

Information on the Certified Coding Associate Exam

AHIMA recognizes that the demand for coders has never been greater—and this need is expected to continue for some years to come. By creating an entry-level coding credential based on job analysis standards and state-of-the-art test construction, AHIMA aims to increase the number of qualified new coders. The result? A larger pool of qualified coders for employers to choose from; certified coders doing a better job managing health information; and recognition for AHIMA members as industry experts and leaders in clinical coding.

New coders who earn the CCA will immediately demonstrate their competency in the field, even if they don’t have much job experience. Earning a CCA demonstrates a commitment to coding even for those who are new in the field. CCA holders will also distinguish themselves from non-credentialed coders and those who hold credentials from other organizations that do not require the higher level of expertise necessary to earn AHIMA certification.

The CCA should be viewed as the starting point for an individual entering a new career as a coder. The CCS and/or CCS-P exams demonstrate the mastery level skills that the CCA would strive for to advance his or her career.

People are the key to a successful organization, and employers demand qualified information technology staff to provide the highest standard of performance for their customers, employees, shareholders and partners. There are two main categories of information technology certifications: vendor-neutral and vendor-specific. Vendor-neutral certifications, such as the CompTIA A+ certification and (ISC) 2 CISSP® certification (Certified Information Systems Security Professional), encompass a broad scope of knowledge and are not tied to any specific technology vendor or product. Vendor-specific certifications, such as Microsoft’s MCSE certification (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer) and Cisco’s CCNA certification (Cisco Certified Network Associate), are offered by information technology vendors covering knowledge and content specific to their products, solutions, and best practices. Both kinds of certifications play an extremely important role in the market, fulfilling specific knowledge and learning requirements, and demonstrating predetermined acceptable levels of competency and experience.

Computer certification programs are setting the standards for the Information Technology industry worldwide. Although most careers in the IT and communications fields are lucrative and lead to rapid advancement, you can move ahead even more rapidly if you have been certified. In fact, you often can earn a salary increase of 20% or more once you become certified. Nowadays, learning computer repair on your own or even having a degree in computer science just isn’t enough. Companies are demanding that their IT professionals be certified as a way to measure their skills as well as to guarantee that they can perform their jobs successfully. In short, computer training certification will help a computer professional get a good job and stay competitive in what is now a highly demanding Information Technology environment.

Benefits of certification to the Professional include:

  • Ability to demonstrate a working knowledge of information technology
  • Validates the person’s commitment to the profession
  • Offers a career differentiator, enhanced credibility and marketability
  • Provides access to valuable resources, such as continuing education, peer networking and idea exchange

Benefits of certification for the Organization include:

  • Establishes a standard of best practices for the organization
  • Provides the organization with staff that have demonstrated a broad knowledge in information technology and sound professional judgment
  • Provides access to a network of global industry and subject matter experts
  • Provides comfort to employer as to the individual’s knowledge, skills, abilities and experience

    Access Control, Authentication, and Encryption

There are many potential threats to the security of your directory. Understanding the most common threats helps you plan your overall security design. The most typical threats to directory security fall into the following broad categories:

    • Unauthorized Access

    • Unauthorized Tampering

    • Denial of Service

    Unauthorized Access

While it may seem simple to protect your directory from unauthorized access, the problem can be more complicated. There are several opportunities along the path of directory information delivery for an unauthorized client to gain access to data. Unauthorized access includes:

    • Unauthorized access to data via data-fetching operations

    • Unauthorized access to reusable client authentication information by monitoring the access of others

    • Unauthorized access to data by monitoring the access of others

For example, an unauthorized client can use another client’s credentials to access the data, or an unauthorized client can eavesdrop on the information exchanged between a legitimate client and Directory Server.

Unauthorized access can occur from inside your company, or if your company is connected to an extranet or to the Internet, from outside.

The authentication methods, password policies, and access control mechanisms provided by Directory Server offer efficient ways of preventing unauthorized access.

    Unauthorized Tampering

If intruders gain access to your directory or intercept communication between Directory Server and a client application, they have the potential to modify (or tamper with) directory data. These unauthorized modifications may include:

Your directory is rendered useless if the data can no longer be trusted by clients, or if the directory itself cannot trust the modifications and queries it receives from clients.

If your directory cannot detect tampering, an attacker could alter a client’s request to the server, cancel the request, or change the server’s response to the client. The Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocol and similar technologies can solve this problem by signing information at either end of the connection. For more information about using SSL with Directory Server.

    Denial of Service

With a denial of service attack, the attacker’s goal is to prevent the directory from providing service to its clients. For example, an attacker might simply use the system’s resources to prevent them from being used by someone else.

Directory Server offers a way of preventing denial of service attacks by setting limits on the resources allocated to a particular bind DN. For more information, refer to “Setting Individual Resource Limits” in the Administration Server Administration Guide.

    FREE Online Money Management Tools

Managing your finances is one of the most important things you can do to get ahead and stay ahead of the financial curve. Thankfully there are some excellent, and free, online tools to help you to quickly and easily manage your finances.

Qualifications for this list. The following online money management tools are listed because they meet several criteria, namely, they are free, online, and they are secure. In most cases the companies use the same standards as required for online banking, and in some cases offer a higher level of security.

Online security. Many people are concerned about online security, and rightly so. Identity theft is a growing problem and will continue to be a problem. But you can prevent identity theft by vigilance and smart computing.

Best FREE Online Money Management Tools

    mint_logo

Mint. Mint has taken the financial community by storm in the last year by bringing in over 1 million new users. That is an astounding growth rate, and for good reason. Mint offers a great money management tool, and it is completely free. Mint’s business model is to bring in users with a quality product, analyze their spending, saving, and other financial habits, and offer suggestions for improvements, including showing users how much money they could save or earn by using credit card with a lower interest rate, earning higher interest from a bank account, buying a less expensive cable service, and other ideas. Mint is able to offer a free product because they make money by referring products and services to customers, but they always show you how much money you can save or earn and why it would be a good idea to do so. You can’t turn the ads off, but you can always ignore them, which is a small price to pay for a quality financial management product. Mint is designed primarily to track cash flow and budgeting, and recently added the ability to track investments. Mint also offers an iPhone app.

If you are looking for a more powerful platform including tracking your investments, net worth, and other assets, then check out these Quicken discount codes for great savings on Quicken’s desktop version.

    yodlee-logo

Yodlee. Yodlee is one of the oldest and most comprehensive online money management programs. Yodlee differs from most of the other tools listed here because it is not a cash flow or budgeting tool – it is a one stop shop to track your financial health and offers “a consolidated view of all assets… from accounts such as brokerage, insurance, 401(k), mortgage, etc.” Being able to track your entire net worth online is a great feature, but Yodlee offers much more than just tracking net worth. Users can create a budget and track spending, monitor online accounts, create expense analysis charts, track real estate value, or share access to your account (great to share info with your spouse, accountant, or financial planner).

Customers can transfer funds, pay any biller or individual, pay bills via credit and debit card, receive eBills from over 2,900 institutions, create transaction alerts, set up mobile access and more. To top it off, Yodlee is one of the most secure online money management tools out there.

moneyStrands. moneyStrands is a web-based money management tool. It automatically gathers data for financial accounts, including savings, checking, and credit cards, providing users with an up-to-date view of their finances. moneyStrands also provides personalized money saving advice and recommendations, and lets people anonymously compare themselves with people with similar backgrounds and financial goals.  moneyStrands is fully customizable, offers an iPhone application and mobile version for Smartphones, and supports pdf exports of financial reports. It is also available in both English and Spanish.

    budget-pulse-logo

BudgetPulse. BudgetPulse.com features a fresh and easy to use interface and is best used for building a budget and monitoring your current financial status. BudgetPulse.com also offers another layer of protection between their application and the user’s account information: “For security reasons, we do not and have no intention to link direct to users’ banking account data.” BudgetPulse also supports tracking your finances in multiple foreign currencies, making this an ideal option for someone living in another country.

    buxfer-logo

Buxfer. Buxfer is one of the better options for those who are concerned about online privacy and storing their financial information on a third party server. Buxfer allows users to store their login information on their desktop and will only use it to make a connection to the user’s financial information for downloading recent data; the account info is not stored. You can track your expenses in Buxfer through manual inputs, or by importing your payment statement from your bank, Quicken, or Microsoft Money.

Buxfer also offers a social aspect and allows users to communicate via messages and forums. Buxfer offers a free basic account, but there are two other options available, Plus and Pro. Plus costs $1.79/month and Pro is $2.79/month. Buxfer Plus offers unlimited personal budgets, account links, bill reminders as well and cashflow projections. Pro offers the same features as the Plus version without any advertising.

geezeo-logoGeezeo. Geezeo features one of the most active social user groups and offers more opportunity to interact with other members that most other online money management tools. Users can set goals, budgets, join groups, share information, have discussions, or read their blog for more money magement tips. Geezeo can import information from most financial institutions, but some users have reported problems importing data from ING Direct, which would prevent Geezeo from being an option for me.

    wesabe

Wesabe (Update – Wesabe is closing the money management section of their site as of July 31, 2010; the community pages and forums will remain open). Wesabe combines social networking with money management and tracking capabilities. Users create a user name and can join groups, set financial goals, and share tips and information with each other.  Wesabe also offers the ability to create tags for your expenditures and automatically label your purchases from a store. Other features include a substantial user forums, ability to create reports & graphs, and more.

Which of these online money management tools is best?

It depends on your wants and needs. Here is a quick overview of each tool’s features:

    • Yodlee – Monitor net worth, financial accounts, set alerts, make online payments, and more.
    • Mint, BudgetPulse.com – Manage cash flow and create a budget.
    • Buxfer, Expensr, BudgetPulse.com – Stronger security (they don’t store your account information).
    • Geezeo, Wesabe, Buxfer, and Expensr – Social networks, learning from others, comparing yourself to others in similar situations (age, education level, etc.).

My thoughts. These online money management programs are great tools and offer customers differing abilities to track their finances. Some offer a comprehensive overview, while others are strictly online budgeting and cash flow monitoring tools. The social aspect is important to a lot of people who desire another outlet or even support group. These tools all offer the user q great product at an excellent price.

My biggest complaint is the lack of being able to track all financial accounts through one interface – savings, checking, credit cards, budget, investments, other assets, net worth, etc. Basically what I would like is the functionality of Quicken’s desktop version in an online forma

How to Find the Best Chicago Dentist???

With thousands of dentists to choose from in the city of Chicago alone, it can be very hard to decide where to get treated.  On this site alone you will find over 3,500 listings of local Chicago dentists.  There are several factors that you should look into before thinking about where to go for your Chicago dentistry needs.  Let’s take further look into how to find a dentist in Chicago that is right for you.

    Dental Experience

This should be a no-brainer right?  With such a dense population of dentists is each Chicago neighborhood, chances are you should be able to find one close to where you live.  Why travel to another neighborhood to find a local Chicago dentist when you can get there by foot or a short cab ride.  This can be very convenient in the case of dental emergencies or if you have a condition that requires on-going oral treatments and check-ups.  Also, visiting the dentist is usually not the most fun thing on your agenda that day or week, so you might as well not make things worse by having unnecessarily difficult travel requirements.  Making things easier is always a plus.

    Types of Dental Treatment?

When finding a Chicago dentist, you should determine which types of oral treatments you generally have.  There are so many different local dentists in the city and while many of them are experienced in different procedures, many of them specialize in different aspects of dentistry depending on the practice.  For example, if you have kids, you should probably start searching for a top-rated orthodontist, since your children might need to have braces or other teeth straightening treatments.  If you have problems with imperfections in your teeth and need teeth whitening you should probably look for a dental firm with a well-known cosmetic dental history. There are also dentists that specialize in things like root canal surgery, dental implants, gum disease, dental veneers, oral surgery and more.  Whatever type of oral treatment that you need, you will have multiple options to choose from in Chicago.

    Language

Like any other populated city in the US, Chicago has a wide variety of foreign languages spoken among its inhabitants.  That said, there are dentists for over 30 different languages in the city.  When finding a best dentist Chicago, make sure you look for one that speaks your tongue and you will feel right at home.

    Insurance

Perhaps the most important thing to look for when finding a local Chicago dentist is one that will accept your dental insurance plan.  Many people often forget to even ask this question and they realize later that their insurance plan doesn’t provide coverage at that firm.  Most dental practices will tell you this before giving treatment (although some might not), but it should probably be the first thing you ask so you don’t risk wasting any time.

To Find Dentist Chicago, there is no better way than to start here at Dental Hub.  We have over 3,500 listings of the best dental Chicago has to offer, covering all aspects of dentistry.  Happy hunting!

Fannie Mae Clarifies Unique Hardships and Special Relief Policies

Fannie Mae recently announced our Unique Hardships and Special Relief Policies relating to single-family mortgage loans. For borrowers who experience economic hardship either due to injuries sustained while on active duty as a U.S. service member or due to the death of a U.S. service member, who have problem drywall in their homes, or whose properties or income are negatively impacted by the Gulf oil spill, servicers may suspend or reduce mortgage payments as described more fully below. For clarification, we are providing additional information about these policies and the effect of forbearance generally on our practice of purchasing delinquent loans from our single-family MBS trusts.

    • Service Member Hardships and Problem Drywall under our Unique Hardships Policy. On August 16, 2010, Fannie Mae instituted a policy for qualified homeowners facing ‘unique hardships” as a result of temporary, unforeseen events or conditions that are unlikely to reoccur.Under this policy, Fannie Mae has directed servicers to grant forbearances, based on a case-by-case analysis of each affected borrower’s needs, for the following conditions:
      • Where the borrower is a U.S. service member and is unable to continue making his or her mortgage loan payment due to an injury sustained while on active duty.
      • Where the borrower is unable to continue making his or her mortgage loan payment due to the death of a U.S. service member who was either (i) a borrower or (ii) a family member of the borrower who significantly contributed to the mortgage loan payment. The service member must have died while on active duty.
      • Where the property secured by the mortgage has problem drywall that was new when installed between 2001 and 2008, and the borrower has suffered financial hardship due to additional housing expenses and remediation.

Once identified, servicers may provide qualifying borrowers up to six months of forbearance on their mortgage loan payments, subject to certain requirements, including verification of the borrower’s income and finalization of the terms of the forbearance in writing.
